Client case: Testing elite athlete's nutrition demands

Mads Tærsbøl is one of Europe’s fastest runners and currently training for the Olympics. He is a dedicated elite athlete and he is always looking to fine-tune anything that can optimize his game.

As there were no indicators of toxicity issues, we skipped this step, although we did look at markers for cell health i.e. cell charge (sodium-potassium pump, which is not really a pump, but save that for another day) and minerals as they relate to toxic load. Everything looked in range, so we decided to test for nutrient markers to ensure he is meeting his above-average dietary needs for peak performance.

In these times where our soil is so depleted and there is a constant battle in the media about strict vegan vs. meat-and-more-meat philosophies, it becomes evident that we should simply test and not guess, when it comes to health matters and dietary needs for our bodies.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to health, and in order to figure out how to peak our performance, we need to understand our body’s unique needs, which will change over time with age, physical/mental performance level, trauma/injury, fertility etc.

It is key to be able to be flexible with our diet as this is not a religion - we can go to church for that. Food habits should change as our body’s health needs change.

So we tested for amino acids, fatty acids, minerals along with heavy metals. What we found was that Mads needs slightly more protein-dense sources in his diet (whether that be hemp or pea protein or animal sources), iodine deficiency (involved in digestive capacity along with circulation), and low magnesium and silica (nerves, muscles, ligaments and tendons - i.e. injury recovery/prevention). These are typical imbalances I find in many people, regardless of healthy diet - and we can’t do anything about it, if we don’t know it. Many minerals can also become toxic, if we take too much, so we really don’t want to take super high levels of stuff like iodine, zink, selenium and copper unless we know we are indeed deficient - and this also will require follow-up testing within 6 months to ensure we are not overdoing it. Now you are not going to get toxicity issues by taking your standard multi, but also rarely do they contain enough to saturate deficiencies. Multivitamins are for maintenance purposes.

Top professionalism and commitment - 100% recommendable.
As an elite athlete with extremely high demands on my physical ability, I constantly balance on the edge between exercising too much vs not reaching my maximum level.
For that reason, it is super important that my body gets the right nutrients, but also in the right doses. Christina has helped me with that.
Through testing of my heavy metal load, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids, we have been able to focus on precisely those areas where I have had deficiencies / imbalances.
This is an important step in the direction of being able to deliver at the highest level, but also to ensure good health and a functioning body when I become an older gentleman in many years! :-)
If you are interested in giving your body optimal conditions, then I can highly recommend Christina - she is very competent, but at the same time focuses on exactly YOU and YOUR situation:-)
