Many of us turn to clean skin care products - it has almost become a gimmick at this point in time. Especially as many of the so-called clean beauty products do nothing good for the skin - they don’t contain actually skin benefitting ingredients, but can get a label touting “clean” simply by avoiding the main allergy-triggers.
Although it is a good idea to focus on the health-damaging chemicals around us, it is even more important that we understand how to prioritize our efforts to not get overwhelmed with insignificant details. I.e. it doesn’t matter if a little perfume has been added to a soap (unless we are hyper allergic), but it does matter how clean our drinking and bathing water is and whether we cook and store food in contact with plastic (heat/ acid effect primarily). It is most often from such boring everyday sources that the majority of the chemicals we get back on the lab tests done on clients are derived from. Chemicals related to increased disease risk incl. cancer.
I find glyphosate in the majority I test - and some are alarmingly high. Often the symptoms they present with are digestive distress. The best way to protect ourselves from glyphosate is with a tap water and shower filter system. It is something we should all consider investing in - regardless of which part of the country we live in. In addition to filtering our water, we should choose organic cereal products - simply to cut out the worst food source for glyphosate.
Currently more and more research is supporting that glyphosate IS related to cancer, digestive disorders etc. This despite the fact that Bayer (one of the big pharmaceutical manufacturers) insists that the research is not clear-cut. Let's not forget that one of the most widespread ways to create confusion among the consumer is the age-old trick of industry sponsoring the studies - ie. researchers are paid in these studies to investigate conditions that must reflect low disease risk - such as what happens if you drink glyphosate contaminated water over 6 months? Nothing. Conclusion in study = it is harmless. But it is unfortunately very misleading when people drink and bathe in glyphosate contaminated water year after year AND you can find elevated values in their urine over time, and we also see how animals develop cancer and various other issues when exposed to said chemical.
