Did you know that we get the most lysine from red meats?

The amino acid that targets viral infections

October 31, 2016

Did you know that virus can only mutate, when the amino acid arginine ratio in the body is higher than lysine?

Lysine Is An Amino Acid That Seems To Inhibit Virus.

This is a break-though discovery as much of what we typically may perceive as "healthy" is not ideal when targeting a specific virus. And antibiotics don't work on virus, and will only make matters worse as the natural healthy gut flora is killed off and makes you even more vulnerable to viral infections ongoing.

Maintaining Health And Targeting A Specific Disease Or Health Condition Are Two Very Different Things.

What is L-Lysine? An essential amino acid, l-lysine or lysine is necessary for human health. However, the body cannot manufacture the nutrient, so it is important to get enough of the nutrient via dietary intake or supplement.

Lysine serves as a building block for proteins in the body, important for growth and development.

If we are under severe stressors or following a strict type of diet regime, we will typically unknowingly cut out this critical amino acid.

People Vulnerable For Low Lysine Intake Affecting Overall Immunity, Include Athletes, Burn Patients, Picky Eaters And Vegans.

An insufficient amount of lysine in the diet leads to viral infections (including susceptibility to the increasingly epidemic Herpes Complex virus, which 90% of us are expected to be carriers of in some form or other!), fatigue, nausea, dizziness, decreased appetite, irritability, bloodshot eyes, delayed development, anemia, and reproductive issues.

What Are The TOP 5 Highest Food Sources Of Lysine?

Lamb is one of the cleanest meats there is - free of antibiotics and hormones and a superfood for virus, infections and post-surgery due to its high lysine contents. And did you know in Ayurveda (eastern medicine) they actually prescribe red meat during those times, even though this ancient health system is very much overall plant-based? Yes, different health conditions call for different nutrition strategies.

  1. Beef
  2. Lamb
  3. Buffalo, Sheep + Goat's cheese
  4. Poultry (turkey, chicken etc.)
  5. Tuna (to avoid heavy metals, make sure to get a brand tested free of this)

Obviously, a vegan or vegetarian diet is not optimal when fighting viral infections, they may be optimal for detoxing in other cases. Again, goes to show that we get in trouble, when we prescribe ourselves to a strict dietary regime.

As our health needs and body biochemistry changes as does our food requirements. And we are better off to honor that, than hanging on to a notion of making our food habits into religion.

How Much Should You Take If Supplementing?

During a viral infection of any kind, you will want to take around 2g typically - but you will need to work with a health care provider who knows what else is going on with your labs to determine the exact dosage that is right for you.
