Did you know that too much Omega 3 actually impairs the immune system's ability to kill pathogens, thus increasing viral pathogen burden? Yes, many of us think that the more fish oil the better, but as with anything too much of a good thing is just not a good thing anymore and - surprise - actually proinflammatory.
The omega 6:3 ratio should be 4:1
Omega 6 is often criticized as being proinflammatory, but that is way too simplistic. Omega-6 stimulates the immune response to go after a pathogen.
If the ratio of omega 6:3 gets screwed so that omega-3 actually gets too high, this in turn affects something called Th1 (T-helper cells involved in proper immune regulation) and results in that we may have a difficult time clearing viral infections and creating sufficient immune response to protect from pathogens.
