“Several meta-analyses dating from about 2000 all report significant associations between exposure and risk of leukemia. By examining subsequent reports on childhood leukemia it is clear that almost all government or independent studies find either a statistically significant association between magnetic field exposure and childhood leukemia, or an elevated risk of at least OR = 1.5, while almost all industry supported studies fail to find any significant or even suggestive association. A secondary goal of this report is to examine the level of evidence for exposure and elevated risk of various adult cancers. Based on pooled or meta-analyses as well as subsequent peer-reviewed studies there is strong evidence that excessive exposure to magnetic fields increases risk of adult leukemia, male and female breast cancer and brain cancer. There is less convincing but suggestive evidence for elevations in several other cancer types. There is less clear evidence for bias based on source of funding in the adult cancer studies. There is also some evidence that both paternal and maternal prenatal exposure to magnetic fields results in an increased risk of leukemia and brain cancer in offspring. When one allows for bias reflected in source of funding, the evidence that magnetic fields increase risk of cancer is neither inconsistent nor inconclusive. Furthermore adults are also at risk, not just children, and there is strong evidence for cancers in addition to leukemia, particularly brain and breast cancer.”
I recommend everyone get an EMFields Acoustimeter AM11 (retails for approx. 500USD/ 2800 Danish Kroner), which is an easy tool to measure your home environment safety and do something about it. Without testing your environment and understanding where it is coming from (your own devices, cell phone towers, your neighbour’s wifi router placed against your bedroom etc.), it gets very abstract to talk about whether EMF is an issue for your and your family - test don’t guess. “Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is not only a pineal hormone, but also an ubiquitary molecule present in plants and part of our diet. Numerous preclinical and some clinical reports pointed to its multiple beneficial effects including oncostatic properties, and as such, it has become one of the most aspiring goals in cancer prevention/therapy. A link between cancer and inflammation and/or metabolic disorders has been well established and the therapy of these conditions with so-called pleiotropic drugs, which include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, statins and peroral antidiabetics, modulates a cancer risk too. Adjuvant therapy with melatonin may improve the oncostatic potential of these drugs. Results from preclinical studies are limited though support this hypothesis, which, however, remains to be verified by further research.” Read the full study here: https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/19/12/3910 and feel free to share.

Swimmer’s ear is something many of us get to deal with at some point in our life, if we love swimming. It is caused by either Staphylococcus aureus or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Both bacteria thrive in moist environments, why it is critical to keep those ears dry after showering or going swimming. The common treatment route will be antibiotics, but if this becomes an often scenario, we might want to check out some natural remedies, as no one wants to take antibiotics too frequently. In this study they compared conventional antibiotics to natural antibiotics, which have shown to be quite efficient against both bacteria strains as well: “In summary, we demonstrate here that cassia, Peru balsam, and red thyme essential oils are more effective in eradicating Pseudomonas and S. aureus biofilms than selected important antibiotics, making them interesting candidates for the treatment of biofilms.” Read the study here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3346404/ and feel free to share.

Did you know that lead poisoning causes cognitive, motor, and behavioral changes? In addition, it has been shown, that it also plays a role in the pathophysiology of ADHD. Lead exposure is estimated to account for 290,000 excess cases of ADHD in US children.

The most common sources of lead are through our drinking water and typical “men’s jobs” i.e. mechanics and the like. If we don’t test for it, we can’t treat it.

“The washer plate of the Nespresso® compatible coffee machine had a reading of 4000 colony forming units (CFU)! Anything more than 75 CFU as stated in the official Health Act (Act 63, 1977) on Total Microbial Activity is unsatisfactory and any reading above 1000 CFU is unacceptable as it raises major health concerns. SWIFT states that it requires immediate attention. The washer plate was therefore nearly 54 times over the limit of the official Health Act recommendation. The Mould reading came to 10 CFU on the washer plate, which is not concerning, but it is still not nice to know that mould could end up in your coffee cup.”
However, simply cleaning your Nespresso machine with something as simple as vinegar 1-2 x weekly will solve this issue. Read the article here.

“Microwaves are electromagnetic waves with frequencies ranging from 300 MHz to 300 GHz. Microwaves are widely used in households, industry, communications, and medical and military buildings, and they provide substantial contributions to the development of human society. However, with its popularization, increasing attention has been paid to its influence on humans. Electromagnetic radiation can be absorbed by organisms, in which it causes a series of physiological and functional changes. Many intricate electrical activities occur in the central nervous system, including learning and memory, which are therefore vulnerable to electromagnetic radiation. Moreover, the popularization of mobile phones has made them the main source of brain exposure to radiation. Therefore, the central nervous system is considered one of the most sensitive organs that is targeted by microwave radiation. A large number of studies have shown that microwave radiation can cause a series of adverse reactions in the central nervous system, including sleep disorders in addition to learning and memory impairments.” Click on to read the full study.

A European medical study found that approx. 62% of adults whom doctors examined had an average of 10-12 pounds of residual fecal matter buildup in their large intestines and rectums. Even people who had a bowel movement daily were at risk for accumulating old fecal matter. The majority of my clients I start of putting on a variety of herbal supplements including mimosa pudica which literally scrubs the gut and gets rids of old fecal matter and biofilm. It smells utterly disgusting the first couple months when people go to the restroom, because old bacteria and rotten fecal matter is being expelled. But better that, than having this stuff inside our gut, creating chronic inflammation and inhibiting our ability to absorb nutrients. We are NOT what we eat, if we can’t absorb it. And if the walls of our gut is insulated with a layer of old fecal matter, we have created a haven for inflammatory conditions, pathogenic bacteria, parasites etc. If we do not remove this, but rather focus on treating the situations created by this toxic environment, we will never get to the root of the cause. We will stay stuck in symptom-management: taking stuff for our bacteria balance, getting rid of fungus growth or focusing on killing the parasites etc. All of which need to be addressed, but if the environment in which these things thrive is not cleaned up, it is all in vain, and will not last in the long-term whenever we stop “treatment”. We are NOT supposed to be stuck in need of constant treatment - we are supposed to treat the core issues and then be able to finally live a normal life. If you don’t smoke and yet you’ve been diagnosed with lung cancer, you need to figure out whether you are living in a house with elevated radon levels. Radon is the 2nd most common cause (after smoking) of lung cancer. The only way to do something about it, is to fix your housing situation, as you are inhaling radon gas everyday. “Radon in homes and risk of lung cancer: collaborative analysis of individual data from 13 European case-control studies” - read it here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15613366/ and “Iowa radon lung cancer study” - click here to read it.

Cancer cells grow in all of us at any given time. The difference between someone who gets sick from cancer and someone who doesn’t is their immune system’s ability to constantly kill new and growing cancer cells. That means the key to treating cancer lies both in symptomatically focusing on targeting and eliminating cancer cells that have managed to multiply out of control, but even more importantly in optimizing the immune system to effectively be able to suppress cancer cells on its own. A weak immune system causes a domino effect of disasters in the body, one of which can be cancer. Many factors influence our immune system and can block it from functioning optimally. When we have a blockage in the system i.e. heavy metal toxicity, virus or bacteria load, hormone imbalance, nutrient deficiencies, we have the perfect storm for cancer to use this opportunity to grow. Cancer is not just one disease, but many – and it is a symptom of an underlying cause that needs to be identified to prevent relapse.

The Succesful Body is about understanding health from every angle and finding our weakest link - whether that be mental, physical, spiritual or a combination. I wrote a chapter about how toxins today have contributed to an epidemic of chronic illness. Many don’t realize that toxins wreak havoc on the gut and are linked to digestive disorders, brain fog and the list goes on. A lot of blame has been placed on gluten, but the problem might not be gluten as much as damaged gut due to other factors, we rarely think about.. Probiotics and restrictive diets won’t cure much, if the underlying toxicity isn’t solved. In the world we live in today, so-called clean eating and exercise just isn’t cutting it anymore. We are living in a world with completely new health challenges that needs to be addressed, if we are to thrive in the skin we are in while eating double layered chocolate cake, cos life is too short not to eat cake.. n a German study, doctors examined close to 1,000 patients to see if those who lived close to a cell-tower for 10 years had an increased risk of cancer. The social and age differences within the study group were insignificant. They found that the proportion of newly developed cancer cases was three times higher for those living within 400 meters (approx 1300feet) of a cell-tower compared to those living further away. In addition, they found that patients on average became ill with cancer 8 years earlier. To live more than 400 meters away from a cell-tower is particularly important. This is because computer simulation and measurements used in the study showed that the radiation at that distance or less (the "inner region") is 100 times greater than the emissions beyond this distance ("the outer region"). Another important observation from the research is that the first 5 years one lived near a cell-tower, the risk was no different than one living far away from one. However, after 6-10 years the cancer risk jumped threefold for those who lived less than 400 meters from a cell-tower. Even more worrying: the average age of diagnosis was much younger. The risk of breast, prostate, pancreatic, intestinal, melanoma, lung and blood cancer increases significantly.

When we want to improve our health, we oftentimes spend all our time focusing on one aspect of our health. And this aspect may not be the one which is causing the health imbalance. This is why “test don’t guess” becomes super important - we want to know our weaknesses and also what our body nutritionally needs (protein/fats/(carbs/vitamin/minerals etc.). If we don’t know the facts, then we might be missing the boat completely. It is super unscientific to guess what will make an impact on our health. Health is not simply “move more and eat more greens”. Everyone knows that, yet many of us who follow that basic recommendation, are not at all healthy. We struggle with abdominal fat, infertility issues, fragile bones, migraines, digestive upset whenever we are not eating bland diet foods and in worst case, we get cancer. The key here is to understand the many different factors today that affect health and pin-point which are relevant for our specific situation. We want to focus on our weakest link. Quite often that has nothing to do with eating glutenfree or skipping cake.

I am currently experimenting with different types of silica and bioavailability. Silica is something 99.9% lacks when I test for it, and this is a crucial mineral for everything beauty and bone related. And let’s not forget it is placed next to that heavy metal aluminium in the periodic table and these two guys have a tendency to exchange places. Meaning, when our body is lacking silica, we become more vulnerable to store aluminium. Silica (or silicon) minimizes wrinkles, improves hair strand strength and nails, it increases collagen production and thereby also the appearance of cellulite. I am completely convinced silica is THE MOST OVERLOOKED beauty and bone nutrient of today. Better than Botox, may I add.

Low thyroid tends to affect the mitochondria negatively, when you then eat a keto diet, all the energy from ketogenesis goes directly to the mitochondria (which are often malfunctioning), to produce energy. This will worsen energy levels and weight for the majority. You are taking the fatty acids of fat and transporting that into the mitochondria, and if there are any issues with the carnitine-shuttle, then there are going to be problems. On top of that, then you are doing a fatty acid oxidation, so you are breaking that down in to acetyl-CoA and making it go through Krebs cycle and the electron-transport chain. This results in a very poor energy outcome in cases, where there is mitochondrial malfunction. Typically, when our thyroid is not working, we are struggling with chemical, infectional and/or heavy metal load, which is affecting the mitochondrial function. We do not want our energy production to have to go through this malfunctioning pathway then - we want to focus on glycolysis instead. The key here to understand is, that as our body changes with time, so do our dietary needs. And healthy eating is only healthy, if we are eating right for our body’s needs.
